Support for Your Own Money & Spirituality Journey
JOURNALING QUESTIONS
Discovering Your Call
Although some people describe finding their "call" in
life as coming in a lightning bolt or as a stunning
revelation, most of us, call comes one step at a time,
bit by bit. Try paying attention to what you do well,
what you love to do.
We invite you to respond to these questions in your
personal journal on money and spirituality:
-
Make a list of all the jobs - paid
or unpaid - that you have done in your life.
-
For each job, identify your
motivation for doing the work.
-
Is there a pattern that stands out
for you?
-
Did you ever create your own job or
business?
-
Have you seen a need and designed a
way to fill it?
-
Is there any sense of "call" in your
work history?
-
What is missing from your work
history? Is there anything you wanted to do, but
have held back for some reason?
If you wish to share your reflections
with our readers, please
email us.

Message from Rosemary Williams
We have had a busy spring, which included
workshops in New York, participation in the Anglican
Communion's delegation to the UNCSW and the New
Seminary's Sacred Circle, and our co-sponsored
parallel event to the UNCSW, "Follow The Money." Add
to that, an evening with Jean Bolen, based on her
book An Urgent Message from Mother,
our 5th anniversary celebration, "Women Transforming
Communities," as seen through the eyes of
philanthropist and social activist Tracy Gary and
socially responsible investment visionary, Amy
Domini.
(Left
to right) Rosemary Williams, Fran Korten, Alicia
Cardel, David Korten and Jim Dette.
Most recently, I attended a lunch hosted by
Global Education Associates in New York, where I
listened to author David Korten speak about the
difference he hopes to make with his new book,
The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community,
which is highlighted in this month's
Yes Magazine. I recommend both the book and the
magazine as good reads for WP members and friends.
Both provide excellent, thought-provoking material
related to how you live out your life in alignment
with your values and your spiritual vision.
I notice a deep yearning for change among the
people I meet at workshops and at social gatherings,
where I hear the phrases - "I want more meaning in
my life." "I want to make a difference in the
world." - over and over again. With this in mind we
have prepared a list of books that are inspirational
and informative relative to making a difference.

Afghan Women Entrepreneurs Inspire Bpeace
Volunteer Susan McPherson
|
|
"For years I tried to find salvation in my
job, but I finally realized that wasn't
working," says Susan McPherson.
Major life changes like retirement or
divorce are unsettling, but they can also
prompt women to seek new ways to align their
lives with their spiritual values. In
Susan's case, life was changed by her
divorce and subsequent transfer to New York
to be closer to relatives.
Even though Susan loves her marketing
career at PR Newwire, she was open to a new
opportunity to make a difference in the
world. At just that point, a respected
colleague serendipitously introduced her to
the Business Council for Peace, or
Bpeace, which promotes peace by helping
women in war-torn countries grow their own
businesses. "I went to the
Bpeace website and said, "Wow!"

Partnering Faith & Finance for Peace
|
|
For the past 50 years, the UN has brought
together women from all over the world to
meet and work on the Commission on the
Status of Women. This spring, Beth Adamson,
Erika Steffen and Karen Maru attended the
UNCSW as representatives of Women's
Perspective. Beth and Rosemary volunteered
to be a part of the organizing and
coordinating committee for the Anglican
Consultative Council delegation, which was
the largest delegation of women attending
the conference.
Women’s Perspective designed and
facilitated a "parallel event" on Women's
Leadership: Partnering Faith & Finance,
which was co- sponsored by the Anglican
Consultative Council and Global Education
Associates.
Through examples of individual women's
leadership in the U.S. and Africa,
participants followed money from the global
perspective to the local perspective to
their own pocketbooks.
"The session included everything we are
doing at Women’s Perspective," said
Rosemary, "Working with women on a global
scale, working on leadership issues and
integrating spirituality and how women think
about money."

WP Celebrates Fifth Anniversary in
Washington, D.C. |

(Left) WP's newest Board Members Sakinah
Carter and Anita Galati greet participants
in our Fifth Anniversary celebration in
Washington, D.C.
Headliners Amy Domini and Tracy Gary
alternately inspired and challenged
supporters of Women's Perspective in how we
connect our financial lives with our deepest
values during our fifth anniversary
celebration in April.
In addition to hearing our guest
speakers, participants in the day-long event
in Washington, D.C., also discovered new
connections during workshops and informal
conversations throughout the day.

Book Review: Women and the U.S. Budget
|
|
At Women's Perspective, we encourage you
to "follow the money" in your personal life
and in the wider world.
Take your understanding to the next level
with Women and the U.S. Budget: Where
Your Money Goes and What You Can Do About
It.
If this book by Jane Midgley sounds like
heavy reading, just think of it as a crash
course in budget literacy.

WP's New Address & Phone |
|
Our new address is Women's Perspective, P.
O. Box 244, Fairfield, CT 06824, and our new
phone/fax number is 203-254-0109.
We're moving because Peter Nagle, our
landlord, has an expanding business, for
this reason he needed the office he leased
to Women's Perspective. Although we are
happy for Peter we are sad to leave. Working
in that space with him and other members of
his family has been a delight. Peter, his
wife Joy, sister-in-law Patti and Women's
Perspective share the view that we, as
individuals, can do much to create a better
world.
Let me tell you just a bit about
Peter Nagle. As a financial advisor, he
helps individuals plan to live more fruitful
lives and use their assets well. In his own
attempt to live a fruitful life, he attended
Yale Divinity School while working full-time
professionally in the financial field and
eventually found himself called to work with
the Israeli/Palestine issue. He has since
produced a film, a study guide and takes
delegations to Israel/Palestine. His mission
is to help people understand he true nature
of the problem, and what paths to peace and
reconciliation might be.
