JOURNALING QUESTIONS

Money Messages from One Generation to the Next
Each of us has a unique "money heritage," the spoken and unspoken messages about money that we received from our famlies. We invite you to respond to these questions in your personal journal on money and spirituality:

  • When I was growing up, who made the financial decisions in my family?

  • How were money and financial decisions handled?

  • Did I think that money in my household was scarce or abundant?

  • Describe a childhood experience about money.

  • What do I remember about how I felt about money as a child?

  • When I reflect on my "money heritage," what feelings arise?

  • What do I think my legacy will be to those who remember my money story?

If you wish to share your reflections with our readers, please email us.

Message from Rosemary Williams
As we prepare for our fifth anniversary celebration, I reflect on the richness of the last five years. We hear many inspiring stories about the transformation of individuals, families, communities and organizations when money, transparency and spirituality are intertwined. We are privileged to participate with you as you explore the intimate moments of your spiritual and financial lives. This sharing creates our community.

In March, Women's Perspective will participate in these events:

A full month indeed, so check our calendar to see if you can join us!

Nilda Follini’s Legacy: "This Isn’t Money - This is Love"

Left to right: Patrica Varley and her "Gram," Nilda Follini, in Patricia's kitchen.

When international speaker and business and personal coach Patricia Varley looks back on turning points in her career, her grandmother stands out as her mentor on the spirituality of money.

Affectionately called Gram, Nilda Follini came of age during the Great Depression. Patricia tells the story of Nilda’s early job as a secretary whose male boss advised: “Nilda, always have your own money. Put the house in your name!” It had such a strong impact on her that she passed it down to generations of women in her family.

Born from Italian immigrants, Nilda and her husband George operated a successful construction and contracting firm that built the roads, bridges and infrastructure of post-war New York City. Initially, Nilda would type the proposals while George managed the construction and his brother Charlie the business deals. As a businesswoman, and strong supporter of her husband George, one of Nilda’s favorite sayings was, “Money isn’t the root of evil; the love of money is the root of evil!”

An Urgent Message from Mother: March 9 Evening with Jean Shinoda Bolen

Join Women's Perspective for an evening with author Jean Shinoda Bolen, who will elaborate on the topics in her new book, An Urgent Message from Mother: Gather the Women, Save the World. She will also autograph copies of her book.

The evening will take place March 9, 6:30 to 9:00 pm at St. Paul's Church, 661 Old Post Rd., Fairfield, CT (Exit 22 off I-95). A $25 donation is requested at the door.

Dr. Bolen combines visionary thinking with practical how-to, creating an eloquent call to action for women of all ages to save our planet, our society, our economy, our family structures, and ourselves. She asks us to consider, "What do I do with my money?" and "Who do I become through my choices?"
